It is strange to be sure.
That in most organizations creativity is squashed. The unwritten rule is “silence” is golden. “Play by my set of rules.” “My way or the highway.”
If an organization wants creativity and innovation they have to create a culture of creativity and innovation. Thinking not only differently but better develops fierce competitive advantage for clients and best talent.
Try this in your next meeting:
Encourage people to safely offer their ideas.
Provide them with a safe haven for innovation. Meaning if an idea from a line employee for example bucks the status quo provide an opportunity for celebration rather than, “That’s not the way we do thing around here.”
Provide examples where, a manager listened and management, particularly the frontline supervisor actually tried to foster the idea.
Experimenting with an idea doesn’t imply it will work. It does however, imply support of all ideas. Which will go a long way towards developing new avenues for growth in any economy. Jim
